Squeezing breasts 'can stop cancer'
A little squeeze may be all that it takes to prevent malignant breast cells triggering cancer, research has shown.
Laboratory experiments showed that applying physical pressure to the cells guided them back to a normal growth pattern.
Scientists do not envisage fighting breast cancer with a new range of compression bras, but they believe the research provides clues that could lead to new treatments...

Government to snoop on computer use of jobless to check they are looking for work
- New website will monitor whether unemployed search for three jobs a week
- Benefits will be cut for those who do not do enough to look for work
- Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith says website will match vacancies to jobless 'while they sleep'
- Labour opposes 1% cap on rises in benefits
A new website launched by ministers will remotely monitor whether benefits claimants are making enough effort to find employment.
Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith warned that jobseekers could see their benefits slashed if they fail to look for three jobs a week on the ‘revolutionary’ new government website.

Spider That Builds Its Own Spider Decoys Discovered
A spider that builds elaborate, fake spiders and hangs them in its web has been discovered in the Peruvian Amazon.
Believed to be a new species in the genus Cyclosa, the arachnid crafts the larger spider from leaves, debris and dead insects. Though Cyclosa includes other sculpting arachnids, this is the first one observed to build a replica with multiple, spidery legs.

Verizon patents targeted advertising method that determines if viewers are laughing, cuddling, sleeping or singing
If the detection system determines that a couple is arguing, a
service provider would be able to send an ad for marriage counseling to a
TV or mobile device in the room. If the couple utters words that
indicate they are cuddling, they would receive ads for "a romantic
getaway vacation, a commercial for a contraceptive, a commercial for
flowers," or commercials for romantic movies, Verizon states in the
patent application.
For years, technology executives have discussed the possibility of using devices such as Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Xbox 360 Kinect cameras to target advertising and programming to viewers, taking advantage of the ability to determine whether an adult or child is viewing a program. But Verizon is looking at taking targeted advertising to a new level with its patent application, which is titled "Methods and Systems for Presenting an Advertisement Associated with an Ambient Action of a User."

The Verizon patent shows the detection zone near a TV. Cameras, microphones and other sensors would be linked to a detection system, and ads would be targeted to viewers based on data collected by the sensors.

The 'Highest' Spot on Earth?
It is Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador. Yes, Ecuador.
Mount Chimborazo, in the Andes, is a 20,000-plus-foot peak sitting on top of a bulge on the Earth. Mount Everest is a 29,000-plus-foot peak sitting lower down on that same bulge. Because Chimborazo is a bump on a bigger part of the bulge, it is higher.
According to Senne, Chimborazo is 1.5 miles higher than Everest! Or, if you will, 1.5 miles closer to outer space.
If you define "highest" as highest from sea level, Mount Everest is still champion.
But if you want to stand on the place on Earth that is closest to the moon, that would be Mount Chimborazo!

Fox Found “Frozen Alive” in Norway River
Not far from highway E18 in Kragerø, Norway, a red fox was found frozen standing upright in a river, as if the water had suddenly turned to ice as it was crossing through.
Foxes have a high tolerance for cold and are well adapted to withstanding low temperatures, so, in principle, this little guy should have been able to cross the river without any major problems.
Furthermore, even if it had been injured or on the verge of death while wading through the river, it would have lied down in its final moments instead of standing upright.
While no one is certain what caused the fox to freeze in such a position, locals suggest that it could have been passing through thin ice and gotten stuck, or even been shot and then intentionally placed there as a cruel prank.
What do you think? Is this staged or did something happen to the poor fox before he could make it safely to shore?

Pope calls for world authority as 'moral force'
VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- The world
authority envisioned by two popes as a way to ensure global peace and
justice would not be a superpower, but primarily a moral force with
limited jurisdiction, Pope Benedict XVI said.
The pope made his remarks Dec. 3 to a plenary session of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, which was scheduled to meet for three days to discuss the theme of "political authority and global governance."
In his address, Pope Benedict recalled that Blessed John XXIII had called for the "construction of a world community, with a corresponding authority," to serve the "common good of the human family."
The pope also cited his own 2009 encyclical "Caritas in Veritate," in which he called for a "true world political authority" to ensure international cooperation, peace and environmental protection.

Sinister Sites: IRS Headquarters, Maryland
The entrance to the IRS headquarters is guarded by two black and
white pillars made of the highest quality marble, topped with white
hands. Between the two pillars is a dark pyramid with a metallic
capstone on which is written “We the People”. What does all of this
represent? Here’s an “official” description:
http://vigilantcitizen.com/sinistersites/sinister-sites-irs-headquarters-maryland/
“The most striking elements are the huge, white marble hands atop each column. Each hand points skyward, one with the forefinger extended; the other is an open hand, the fingers ever so slightly cupped.
The 1997 work is called “Vox Populi,” which is Latin for “the voice of the people.” The hand with the raised index finger represents deliberation, argument, the gesticulation of a speaker giving his or her opinion. The hand with an open palm represents the act of voting or taking an oath.”

Hackers Assault Epilepsy Patients via Computer
The incident, possibly the first computer attack to inflict physical
harm on the victims, began Saturday, March 22, when attackers used a
script to post hundreds of messages embedded with flashing animated
gifs.
The attackers turned to a more effective tactic on Sunday, injecting JavaScript into some posts that redirected users' browsers to a page with a more complex image designed to trigger seizures in both photosensitive and pattern-sensitive epileptics.
RyAnne Fultz, a 33-year-old woman who suffers from pattern-sensitive epilepsy, says she clicked on a forum post with a legitimate-sounding title on Sunday. Her browser window resized to fill her screen, which was then taken over by a pattern of squares rapidly flashing in different colors.
Fultz says she "locked up."

German Calls for Gold Repatriation Intensify As Fed Refuses to Allow Inspection
Calls for Germany to repatriate its 1,536 tons of gold reserves held at the NY Fed are intensifying as Der Spiegel reports the Federal Reserve has refused to allow German inspectors to even view the country’s massive gold reserves “in the interest of security and of the control process“.
We have stated repeatedly that with repatriation and/or audit requests completed or in progress by Venezuela, Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, The BOE and the Fed suddenly find themselves in a heap of trouble as the situation (and confidence that the Central banks actually still hold thetungsten gold reserves on deposit) is rapidly deteriorating.
More on the Fed’s non-compliance with German requests to view/inspect their own gold below.

Israeli defence minister Barak says he's leaving politics, shaking up election campaign
Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak on Monday abruptly announced he
was quitting politics, injecting new turmoil into the Israeli political
system weeks ahead of general elections.
Barak, Israel's most-decorated soldier and one-time prime minister, said he would stay on in his current post until a new government is formed following the Jan. 22 balloting.
His resignation could mean the departure of the most moderating influence on hawkish Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who holds a wide lead in polls and is expected to easily win re-election. Barak, who heads a small centrist faction in parliament, often served as Netanyahu's unofficial envoy to Washington to smooth over differences with the Obama White House.

Satire
Satire is a genre of literature, and sometimes graphic and performing arts,
in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to
ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, and society
itself, into improvement.[1] Although satire is usually meant to be funny, its greater purpose is often constructive social criticism, using wit as a weapon.

The Pit Viper
As collectors of natural-history trivia know, the pit viper’s pit is
not the one it lives in, but the directional infrared-sensing dimple
between its eye and nostril. If snakes can do it, why shouldn’t my

Jacob Fraden and David Pintsov have patented (and are looking for licensees for) their new scanning IR device. This 2.5-mm IR sensor is built into the phone next to the digital camera and can measure temperatures from -30 C to about 200 C—and measure them accurately enough for clinical use.

Wonky values in golden ticket visa program
Wealthy Asian business people are lining up for the federal
government's new ''golden ticket'' visa, which waives the usual criteria
for skilled migrants - such as an ability to speak English - in
exchange for a $5 million investment in Australia.
As Australia's refugee debate rages on, the federal government is rolling out the welcome mat for a select class of migrant and it expects 700 new wealthy residents annually under its Significant Investor Visa program, which opens for expressions of interest on Saturday.
For permanent residency, migrants must have $5 million and live in Australia 40 days a year for four years.

Judge John Roll
Just days before being murdered, Judge Roll had issued a preliminary
ruling with intent to rule against the case of 'United States of America
v. $333,520.00 in United States Currency et al'. The subject of the
case involved giving the Obama Administration power to seize citizens'
assets regardless of whether or not it could be proven that they
committed any sort of crimes. And Judge Roll had planned to declare it
unconstitutional.
http://dockets.justia.com/docket/arizona/azdce/4:2010cv00703/568697/
Even though previous presidents have gained similar asset-seizing powers, the recent case would have represented a significant milestone in overriding due process by giving the federal government arbitrary power to steal private property without legitimate cause. And regardless of whether the one doing the seizing was a Democrat or a Republican, Judge Roll would have made the same ruling because, to him, it was a matter of constitutionality, not partisan politics.

Operation Fast and Furious
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) ran a series of "gunwalking" sting operations[2][3] between 2006[4] and 2011.[2][5] These operations were done under the umbrella of Project Gunrunner, a project intended to stem the flow of firearms into Mexico by interdicting straw purchasers and gun traffickers within the United States.[6]
"Gun walking" or "letting guns walk" was a tactic whereby the ATF
"purposely allowed licensed firearms dealers to sell weapons to illegal
straw buyers, hoping to track the guns to Mexican drug cartel leaders."[7]
The stated goal of allowing these purchases was to continue to track the firearms as they were transferred to higher-level traffickers and key figures in Mexican cartels, with the expectation that this would lead to their arrests and the dismantling of the cartels.[8][9] The tactic was questioned during the operations by a number of people, including ATF field agents and cooperating licensed gun dealers.[10][11][12][13][14] Operation Fast and Furious, by far the largest "gunwalking" probe, monitored the sale of over 2,000 firearms, of which nearly 700 were recovered as of October 20, 2011.[15] A number of straw purchasers have been arrested and indicted; however, as of October 2011, none of the targeted high-level cartel figures have been arrested.[7]

Home Owners Across the Nation Sue All Bank Servicers and Their Offshore Havens; Spire Law Officially Announces Filing of Landmark Lawsuit
NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire -04/23/12)- In a lawsuit alleged to involve
the largest money laundering network in United States history, Spire Law
Group, LLP -- on behalf of home owners across the Country -- has filed a
mass tort action in the Supreme Court of New York, County of Kings.
Home owners across the country have sued every major bank servicer and
their subsidiaries -- formed in countries known as havens for money
laundering such as the Cayman Islands, the Isle of Man, Luxembourg and
Malaysia -- alleging that while the Obama Administration was publicly
encouraging loan modifications for home owners, it was privately
ratifying the formation of these shell companies in violation of the
United States Patriot Act, and State and Federal law. The case further
alleges that through these obscure foreign companies, Bank of America,
J.P. Morgan, Wells Fargo Bank, Citibank, Citigroup, One West Bank, and
numerous other federally chartered banks stole hundreds of millions of
dollars of home owners' money during the last decade and then laundered
it through offshore companies. The complaint, Index No. 500827, was
filed by Spire Law Group, LLP, and several of the Firm's affiliates and
partners across the United States.

Police: 2 kids of CNBC exec, mommy blogger fatally stabbed by nanny
October 26, 2012 at 1:08 PM
The children’s mother, Marina Krim,
came home with her 3-year-old daughter on Thursday evening. Puzzled by
the darkened apartment, she returned to the lobby to ask the doorman if
the nanny had gone out with 2-year-old Leo, just learning to walk, and
6-year-old Lucia, known as Lulu, lover of “all things princess.”
She was told they hadn’t left, so she
returned upstairs. The children’s bodies were in the bathtub; the nanny
lay wounded nearby. It’s unclear how many times the children were
stabbed.
“There was some kind of screaming
about, ‘You slit her throat!”’ said music therapist Rima Starr, who
lives on the same floor and heard screams coming from the apartment at
around 5:30 p.m.
The nanny, Yoselyn Ortega, who was
found near a knife, remained hospitalized Friday. She was placed in
police custody, but no charges have been filed.

Foxconn Allegedly Replacing Human Workers With Robots
Foxconn has been planning to buy 1 million robots to replace human workers and it looks like that change, albeit gradual, is about to start.
The company is allegedly paying $25,000 per robot – about three times a worker’s average salary – and they will replace humans in (Iphone) assembly tasks. The plans have been in place for a while – I spoke to Foxconn reps about this a year ago – and it makes perfect sense. Humans are messy, they want more money, and having a half-a-million of them in one factory is a recipe for unrest. But what happens after the halls are clear of careful young men and women and instead full of whirring robots? What happens to China’s “burgeoning” economy?

TrapWire
TrapWire is a 'counter-terrorism' technology company that produces a homonymous predictive software system designed to find patterns indicative of terrorism attacks.
The company has been named in recent (August 2012) WikiLeaks releases as the source of software that facilitates intelligence-gathering on U.S. and global citizens, using surveillance technology, incident reports from citizens, and data correlation for local police and law enforcement agencies.
Details about the program emerged as emails from intelligence company Stratfor had been hacked at the end of 2011. According to a report of Russia Today,[2] a network of surveillance cameras is installed "in most major American cities at selected high value targets (HVTs) and has appeared abroad as well." A software program analyzes the images to detect "suspicious" behavior. The program is reported to be a joint effort of Stratfor and Abraxas Corp (VA)but following an ownership change Abraxas has no involvement in the technology venture. The report also refers to a 2006 article, in which then Abraxas Vice President R. Daniel Botsch outlined Trapwire's capabilities:[3]
In one leaked email, Stratfor vice president Fred Burton states that TrapWire is in place at every high-value target in New York City, Washington, D.C, and Los Angeles, as well as London and Ottawa.Any patterns detected – links among individuals, vehicles or activities – will be reported back to each affected facility. This information can also be shared with law enforcement organizations, enabling them to begin investigations into the suspected surveillance cell.
Sociopaat

Using the Inner Ear's Biological Battery
Scientists have harvested energy from a guinea pig's inner ear and used
it to power a small wireless transmitter. With further design work,
researchers could harvest this biological battery to power implanted
devices near the human ear, such as molecular sensors and drug delivery
vehicles for hearing loss and other disorders, according to a study to
be published today in Nature Biotechnology.
It has been known for decades that the inner ear contains this biological battery, but until now, no one has harvested it. The authors of the paper, led by Anantha Chandrakasan at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Konstantina Stankovic at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, succeeded without damaging the guinea pigs' hearing.

Public prosecutor orders pornographic sites blocked
The public prosecutor sent
official letters to the Communications and Information Technology
Minister, the Interior Minister and the head of the National
Telecommunications Regulatory Authority on Wednesday ordering that they
block pornographic websites.
Public Prosecutor Abdel Meguid
Mahmoud wrote that such websites show images that are contrary to the
values and traditions of Egyptian society and the national interest, his
spokesperson Adel al-Saeed said.
The State Council
Administrative Court in May 2009 decreed that the government should ban
porn websites. The court said such websites help spread vice, which
destroys traditions, beliefs and morals, and therefore the country’s
interests as well as social and national security.

Terminator Arm Dad!
A father who lost his arm in an accident six years ago has been given a new lease of life by a hi-tech bionic hand which is so precise he can even type again! (also, i'd suggest not fooling around with this man's daughter).
Nigel Ackland, 53, has been fitted with the Terminator-like carbon fibre mechanical hand which he can control with movements in his upper arm. The new bebionic3 myoelectric hand, which is also made from aluminium and alloy knuckles, moves like a real human limb by responding to Nigel's muscle twitches.
Incredibly, the robotic arm is so sensitive it means the father-of-one can touch type on a computer keyboard, peel vegetables, and even dress himself for the first time in six years.

Germany Wants to See its US Gold
Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann wanted to personally convince
Peter Gauweiler that the German gold was still where it should be. Early
this summer, the head of Germany's central bank took the obstinate
politician from the conservative Christian Social Union (CSU), a party
that is a member of the government coalition in Berlin, and a number of
his colleagues into the Bundesbank's inner sanctum: the gold vault.
There, 6,000 gold bars are stacked on industrial-strength shelves in a
purpose-built building in Frankfurt. An additional 76,000 bars of
bullion are stored in four safe boxes, in sealed containers.
But even this personal inspection wasn't enough to reassure the
visiting member of parliament -- on the contrary: "The Bundesbank
monitors its domestic gold in an exemplary fashion," Gauweiler says,
"and this makes it all the more incomprehensible that the bank doesn't
look after its reserves abroad."

New '100% accurate' test diagnoses schizophrenics simply by checking their gaze
Scientists have developed an almost 100 per cent accurate test to detect schizophrenics - by checking their gaze.
Impaired eye movement has long been thought to be associated with schizophrenia.
Now a new study has reported a model of testing which demonstrated 98 per cent accuracy in distinguishing between those with and without schizophrenia.
Using 'simple viewing tests', researchers at Aberdeen University explored the ability of eye movement tests to sort schizophrenics from healthy people.
People with schizophrenia showed well-documented deficits in the ability to track slow moving objects smoothly with their eyes.
Their eye movements tended to fall behind the moving object and then catch up again using rapid eye movements called 'saccades'.

Deep Web
The Deep Web (also called the Deepnet, the Invisible Web, the Undernet or the hidden Web) is World Wide Web content that is not part of the Surface Web, which is indexed by standard search engines.
It should not be confused with the dark Internet, the computers that can no longer be reached via Internet, or with the distributed filesharing network Darknet, which could be classified as a smaller part of the Deep Web.
Mike Bergman, founder of BrightPlanet, credited with coining the phrase,[1] has said that searching on the Internet today can be compared to dragging a net across the surface of the ocean: a great deal may be caught in the net, but there is a wealth of information that is deep and therefore missed.[2] Most of the Web's information is buried far down on dynamically generated sites, and standard search engines do not find it. Traditional search engines cannot "see" or retrieve content in the deep Web—those pages do not exist until they are created dynamically as the result of a specific search. The deep Web is several orders of magnitude larger than the surface Web.

Prison, $7 billion fine for French rogue trader
PARIS (AP) -- A former junior trader for France's second-largest bank
who was ordered Wednesday to pay back a staggering €4.9 billion (about
$7 billion) in damages to his ex-employer is painting himself as the
victim of a financial system that runs on greed.
Only the Bill Gates or the Warren Buffetts of the world could come up with the breathtaking sum an appeals court demanded Jerome Kerviel reimburse to Societe Generale as punishment for committing one of the biggest trade frauds in history. Kerviel says he will fight back with a new appeal to France's highest court.
The court upheld in full the initial 2010 guilty verdict and sentence, which includes a three-year prison term, against the 35-year-old rogue trader.
He sees himself not as a fraudster but as a victim of a system that turned a blind eye to his colossal positions in late 2007 and early 2008 as long as they made money for the bank.
Hours after the verdict, Kerviel announced his plan to appeal, which he has until Monday to file.
"I will continue to fight," he told RTL radio. "I think the judgment is protecting Societe Generale."

The FBI in the Palm of Your Hands
With the release of iPhone 5 and its clear success, Apple is making great strides to entrench itself as the most widely used smartphone. What is surprising is that iPhone sales have been strong since release despite the fact that a few weeks prior, it was reported that the FBI may be tracking iPhone users.
According to various news outlets, 12 million iPhone and iPad device identifiers were swiped from an FBI computer by hackers associating themselves with the group Anonymous. Luckily for consumers the hack was meant to expose the tracking that was going on and not to compromise any individual accounts. To further credit this attack, the hackers posted one million unique identification numbers that were verified by a third party.
This begs the question, why is the FBI monitoring and tracking people via their iPhones? On what grounds is this legal?

Young Blood Reverses the Signs of Aging
A new study by researchers at Stanford University shows that injections of young blood can reverse the signs of aging in mice.
The experiment is as simple as it sounds. Give an old mouse a syringe
full of blood from a young mouse, and run some tests. Leader of the
research team Saul Villeda and his team found that the boost of youth
improved learning and memory in the older mice. Villeda shared his
research with the Society for Neuroscience conference in New Orleans on
Wednesday and did not understate its implications for conditions that
are caused by deteriorating brain function. "I think any sort of disease
that has that component, there is a chance this might help," he
said. "What I am thinking is if we can address it earlier, when our body
still has the control to prevent this from happening, then we might not
have to cure Alzheimer's, we might just be able to stop it."

Why Baby Carrots Are Killing You
It may shock you that baby carrots do not come out of the ground that
way. There is no little baby carrot garden where these are harvested.
Manufactured baby carrots are a result of taking all the broken and
“ugly” big carrots they can’t put in the package, grinding them all up,
processing them into the “baby” carrots and giving them a bath in
chlorine to give them a bright happy orange color. There are also “Cut
& Peel” baby carrots that are widdled
into a miniature form.
If you look on the package it doesn’t say “Chlorine”, because it was added as part of manufacturing and not added as an ingredient…why is that?
Packaged foods contains lots of chemicals both in the ingredients and in
the manufacturing process. The tricky part is chemicals added as part
of the manufacturing process are not considered to be an ingredient
therefore does not have to be listed on the food label. So there is no
way to tell what else is hiding in that box or package.
If you look on the package it doesn’t say “Chlorine”, because it was added as part of manufacturing and not added as an ingredient…why is that?
